Congratulations to sophomore gymnast Brianna Scala on earning Athlete of the Month for November! Brianna has been doing gymnastics since she was 8 years old and joined the school team in 7th grade where she eventually made varsity. For Brianna, her favorite part of gymnastics is her floor routine, as well as being a part of such a close-knit team. “The coaches are really supportive and always there to help,” as she describes the hard work she’s put in to earn this award. As a sophomore, Brianna appreciates her teachers, the sense of freedom being at Whitman and all of the choices available to her.
Congratulations to senior golfer Robert Posillico on earning Athlete of the Month for November! This season Robert earned All-League and All-County for the Varsity Golf team and shot an 82 at the Rockhill Country Club, a score just short of qualifying for states. Robert’s family has been playing golf for many years, which had the athlete playing the same from a very young age. Robert’s favorite part about the game is that “it’s all on you and nobody else. The practice and time you put in help to get you better on your own.” Robert plans on going to college next year in the northeast and is looking towards studying business or law. At Whitman, the senior is involved in DECA, Interact Club, and SPM team. Robert’s favorite part about going to Walt Whitman High School is the atmosphere, the students, teachers, and how the school feels smaller than it is because of how close everyone is.
